WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?
This BSc (Hons) in Sport Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy is specially designed to enable graduates to become competent in supporting the medical and para-medical professions in the rehabilitation of the injured individual. With growing participation in competitive and recreational sport, there has been an increase in injuries sustained during these activities and this course focuses on both the preventative, assessment and curative aspects of these types of soft tissue injuries. The components of the course are interlinked and co-ordinated closely, with clinical placement in the final year.

WHAT FOLLOW-ON STUDY OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE?
Following graduation students can transfer to a wide range of postgraduate courses at both MSc and PhD level in both IT Carlow, nationally and internationally. A number of graduates have gone on to pre-registration physiotherapy masters courses.

WHAT EXEMPTIONS WILL I RECEIVE?
Successful graduates will be eligible for full membership of BASRaT (British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers). Graduates will also be eligible to apply for membership of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)

WHAT SUBJECTS WILL I STUDY?
Year 1 Mandatory Subjects Anatomy, Physiology, Communications-Team work, Cell Biology, First Aid, Fitness Training, Athletic Assessment and Monitoring, Exercise Physiology and Quantitative methods
Year 2 Mandatory Subjects Anatomy 2, Exercise Physiology 2, Pathology, Fitness training techniques 2, Kinesiology/Biomechanics, Motor Control, Pathophysiology, Massage. Year 3 Mandatory Subjects Soft tissue manual therapy, Sports Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, Clinical Studies, Orthotics and Strapping, Movement Dysfunction, Isokinetics, Year 4 Mandatory Subjects Advanced rehabilitation, Traumatology, Differential diagnosis, Exercise physiology, Research project and dissertation, Clinical studies and work placement. Sports Psychology.

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
(A) Leaving certificate (CAO) applicants are required to have achieved a minimum of six subjects with at least two at higher level grade C3 or higher and four other subjects at least grade D3 at ordinary level. Subjects must include English or Irish and Mathematics at ordinary level grade D3 or higher. Mature applications are welcome and will be assessed on an individual basis. SPECIAL FEATURES
Students gain ongoing, hands on, clinical experience in our on-campus clinic and will have an opportunity to complete clinical work placements in a variety of sites including the USA, South Africa, Australia, Britain and Ireland.
